Voter Certificates

The Election Commission provides voter certificates for voters to use as another means of identification. Voter certificates may be purchased in person at the Election Commission and will be processed as the voter waits. Voter certificates can be used as an additional piece of identification for purposes of obtaining a driver's license or state ID.

Cost

Voter certificates cost $3.00 and can be paid for with cash or check.

Ordering Information

  • A voter must complete a Voter Certificate Request Form at the Election Commission.
  • If the voter is away, the voter should complete the request form and indicate who he or she has designated to pick up the certificate.
  • The voter may fax, email, or mail the request form to the Election Commission.
  • If the voter is a new registrant or is changing his or her address, the Election Commission must verify his or her address prior to issuing a voter certificate.
  • A voter's address can be verified when the Election Commission sends an Acknowledgement of Registration Card to the voter and waits 10 days to verify that the card is not returned by the post office.
  • After the 10 day period, the voter may return to the Election Commission to purchase the voter certificate.
  • If the voter intends to use the voter certificate for identification purposes at the Department of Motor Vehicles, the voter may instead use the voter acknowledgement card as identification.
  • A voter's address can also be verified when a voter provides one of the following pieces of documentation when he or she requests a voter certificate.
  • Current and valid photo identification
  • Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Government check
  • Paycheck
  • Other government document
  • Utility bill
  • Please note that anything other than a photo ID must be dated within 60 days prior to the date of submission.
  • Orders are processed in person as the voter waits. The voter does not need to call ahead or make an appointment.
